Religious Education

Bringing our youth into the fullness of Christ and His Church
“Forming our young people in genuine Catholic spirituality and Catholic doctrine…” John-Paul II
Formation
To register in the Religious Education Program, all families must first be a registered member of St. Joseph’s Parish. Classes begin in grade one and continue until Confirmation. All classes are scheduled at the convenience of the teachers. They are usually held on Monday and Tuesday evening, with a few classes on Sunday morning. The is a Pre-School Program for four and five year olds. This program is held twice a month on Sunday morning during the 10:30 Mass. Registration is held in early spring each year. Students attending catholic school entering grade two (First Communion) and grade 10 (Confirmation) must register for Religious Education Classes. All students are expected to participate in every class and complete all work. Mass attendance is essential to the program. The heart and soul of what we believe is the Celebration of the Eucharist. Parents are encouraged to attend Mass regularly with their children. In addition to class, students in grade 7, 8, 9 and 10 are required to attend a daylong retreat at the Fr. Barry CYO Center in Pawtucket. Confirmation candidates are required to complete twenty hours of Christian Service before Confirmation. Confirmation is received in the spring of grade 10.
Parental Support
We need the support, interest and presence of parents in order for students to participate in a constructive program. There is a general parent meeting for all new parents to the program at the beginning of the school year. In addition parents who have children in the Sacramental Programs of First Penance, First Communion or Confirmation are expected to attend meetings and celebrations on these levels as well.
Adult Education Program
We also offer an Adult Education Program for all adults. Topics which have been submitted by members of our Parish Community are selected by the Adult Education Committee. Sessions are held twice a year in the fall and spring. The format for each session varies depending on the topics. The annual parish mission is held during lent.
